Meet Dr. April Calderon! Dr. Calderon is our new physician at our Cedar Park Clinic location. She is a valuable addition to our team, and embodies the mission of Euphora Health.
Dr. Calderon was born and raised in Austin, Texas. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and then graduated from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007. She then completed her residency at the Waco Family Medicine Residency Program in 2010. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is proficient in Spanish.
Dr. Calderon has a well-rounded background in Family Medicine, and joins us after many years of practicing in insurance-based care. In medical school, she had a hard time choosing a specialty because she fell in love with various areas of medicine – pediatrics, preventive care, and obstetrics/gynecology.
Being a family medicine physician has allowed her to bring her expertise and passion together to treat entire families, thanks to her wide range of knowledge and education.
Dr. Calderon knew she wanted to be a physician at an early age – she spent her time as a little girl playing with her doctor set. Her pediatrician, Dr. Ruiz, was one of her role models and inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. He always listened, made her feel comfortable, and could properly treat any ailment she had. She remembers him starting every visit with a question about something specific or personal from her life they had previously discussed – this made her feel like he truly cared and listened to her.
He has inspired the way Dr. Calderon practices medicine with her patients – she desires to lend a listening ear and a caring heart.
After many years in insurance-based care, Dr. Calderon started to become discouraged about the heavy patient load and numbers-driven goals. She pursued medicine because she cares deeply for people, and she was seeing so many patients every day that she was having trouble genuinely connecting. Hitting goals to pay hefty overhead costs meant spending less time with each patient. This was the catalyst that prompted her to switch to Direct Primary Care.
One of Dr. Calderon’s biggest passions is preventive medicine and disease management. She takes the time to really get to know her patients and their history. She prides herself on being invested and creating a plan to help her patients thrive and prevent disease, instead of just immediately throwing prescription medicine their way. She strives to help each individual tackle their health issues, while focusing on prevention with a holistic point of view.
Becoming a Direct Primary Care physician gives Dr. Calderon the ability to truly connect with and make a difference in the lives of her patients.
In her free time, Dr. Calderon enjoys running, weight lifting, cycling, cooking and traveling. She also loves spending time with her family, including her husband and 3 children. She is thrilled to be a part of Euphora Health!
